If you are a UK student arriving in China, there is a decent chance somebody will drop “download the Xiaoxiang app” into a WeChat group as though that settles it. It does not. It is the sort of advice that sounds helpful until you search the app store and find several similarly named services, mixed reviews, Chinese-only screens and no obvious clue which one your university, accommodation provider or local group actually uses.
